Brotherly Love

When Karleen Rutter was three years old, her baby brother Jed spent just short of a year in the Stollery. Now 16, Karleen sits on the Stollery Youth Philanthropy Ambassadors Committee and gets her inspiration to fundraise and mentor other teens from her younger sibling.

Healing the heart

Pain and tears. Illness and worry. When a child needs emergency care, it can be stressful for everyone involved. But thanks to the work of Dr. Samina Ali and the emergency department team at the Stollery, pain and fear are being reduced, wherever and whenever possible.

Mighty Mia

Mia Richardson has endured close to 10,000 needles and more than 35,000 finger pokes in her life. Now, this bubbly preteen proves a formidable opponent in the fight against juvenile diabetes.

Supporting research

With support from generous donors like you, our Foundation provided $3.8 million last year for children’s health research. From complex genetic disorders to heart and kidney disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease, the Stollery offers patients and their families the latest advances in medical research knowledge and care.

Like a Champ

Derek Schenk has one important piece of advice for any child heading to the Stollery for major surgery: take it one day at a time. A series of tumours and brain surgery can’t keep our new Stollery Champion Child down.

From the Heart

After his passing at age seven, Evan’s family was determined to keep his memory alive, and to help other Stollery kids with cardiac disease live longer lives. “You can either be sad and put it away, or you can put it into something positive,” says Charlene, Evan’s grandmother.
