Dr. David Zygun holds the position of zone medical director, Edmonton Zone with Alberta Health Services. David practices critical care medicine at both the Royal Alexandra and the University of Alberta hospitals. He has held a variety of medical leadership roles, including most recently completing five years as the Edmonton Zone clinical department head, department of adult critical care medicine. He was also the senior medical director of the Critical Care Strategic Clinical Network. David is professor and past chair of the department of critical care medicine at the faculty of medicine and dentistry, University of Alberta.
David has shown continued commitment to mentorship, leadership and lifelong learning throughout his career. He is currently pursuing a master’s of health economics, health policy and management at the London School of Economics.
On a personal note, David was born and raised in Edmonton. When not at the hospital, he can usually be found running or cycling in the beautiful Edmonton river valley trying to keep up with his wife Heather, a physiotherapist with Alberta Health Services. Together, they enjoy the occasional recreational marathon or triathlon. David and Heather have two teenagers, Julia and Alex.
