COVID-19 message

Dear SWN supporters and friends,

Michelle Devlin with name & title

It's an understatement to say these have been a few interesting months. As we navigate working from home, kids learning online and practicing physical distancing, it’s safe to say we are all learning how to support each other in different ways.

For the Stollery Women’s Network, we are following the lead of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation in terms of what we are doing in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. If you haven’t read the message from president & CEO Mike House yet, I encourage you to read about how the Foundation is responding during this time.

Despite not having opportunities to volunteer in the hospital, the work we have done and that you support carries on for Stollery families.

At a past volunteer event, I had the chance to meet Sophia, now 11. Her mom Stephanie has been sharing on social media the impact of COVID-19 on their family. Like many of us, they are in isolation, but her messaging helped me realize: “as parents to a medically compromised child, this global situation is difficult. Knowing Sophia’s protection is out of our hands, but depends on everyone else following the recommended guidelines.”

As a mom with teens and having my own mom in long-term care, we are practicing physical distancing, but I can’t imagine the additional worry surrounding the safety of your child who has been through a lifetime of medical treatments and procedures. I urge you and your families to continue to follow guidelines from Alberta Health Services and Health Canada.

Though our in-hospital volunteering and live events have been postponed for the moment, we are encouraging you to stay connected as a community. You and your support are important to the programs and the Stollerific staff working tirelessly on the front lines right now.

The love, support and friendship created through SWN initiatives and events is as important now as ever. I invite you to reach out to us through our social media channels and stay connected to each other. We will get through this together.
