Meet Sophia

Will you help provide comfort and joy to families like Sophia’s this holiday season?

When Sophia was just three months old, a mother’s instinct told her mom that something wasn’t right.

It was their family doctor who first heard her heart murmur and sent her to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

She was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary hypertension and started on treatment right away.

The disease is rare, it’s progressive and would be fatal if left untreated.

Sophia suffers from shortness of breath, limited activity, chest pain and failure to thrive. At the age of seven she underwent a high-risk procedure where a Potts shunt was placed in her heart.

There was a great risk that her parents could lose her. Thanks to the specialized medical team at the Stollery, she survived and thrived.

Her mom says, “Every day I think about how lucky we are to have this world-class care right here in our backyard. This hospital has kept Sophia alive thanks to the generous people who donate.

Without the support of donors like you, the Stollery could not do what they do – and my daughter would not be here. The team that has saved Sophia’s life year after year needs you and your support.”

Will you bring comfort and joy to families like Sophia’s by making a special holiday donation today?
