Charlotte is a cheerful and energetic little girl. She loves going to the park, eating cake and making people laugh. Thanks to the expert cardiac care she received at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Charlotte will continue to blossom into a lovely little lady.
On March 29, 2015, Charlotte came into the world a beautiful baby girl. While her parents learned at a prenatal ultrasound their daughter would be born with Down syndrome, they were not expecting her to have multiple heart defects ultimately needing open-heart surgery. Transferred to the Stollery’s neonatal intensive care unit, Charlotte spent two weeks further developing and gaining strength. She returned to the Stollery at three-and-a-half months old not for her scheduled surgery, but because she had pneumonia. Finally at five months old, Charlotte underwent her open-heart surgery and she recovered well. The surgery improved Charlotte’s life immensely, and her parents are grateful to have this world-class facility right in their backyard.
