A sign of what’s to come: New Stollery site marks a milestone in No Bounds campaign

EDMONTON — The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation has marked a new milestone in its historic No Bounds campaign with the installation of a sign to show the future site of a new, stand-alone Stollery Children’s Hospital at the University of Alberta’s South Campus.

For the first time, the community can look at a physical sign and know this is where the new Stollery will stand. The sign is more than a marker on the landscape – it represents a bold vision becoming reality and an invitation to help shape what comes next for generations of kids and families.

Stollery No Bounds is a $1-billion campaign to transform pediatric health care today and for generations to come. The campaign will support world-class care at the Stollery today while helping make a new, stand-alone children’s hospital a reality, advancing life-changing research and innovation and investing in the equipment, programs and people that give every child the best chance to live a long and healthy life.

“Seeing the sign go up at the future site of the new Stollery is an incredibly exciting moment,” said Karen Faulkner, President & CEO, Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. “For years, our community has imagined what a stand-alone children’s hospital could make possible. Today, we can point to a place and say: this is where it will happen.”

“But this is not the finish line – it’s a beginning that will call on all of us. Our donors, families, health-care teams, researchers, partners, volunteers and the entire community have a role to play in shaping what comes next. When we come together, there’s no bounds to what we can make possible for kids.”

The Government of Alberta also joined the Foundation at the site to mark the milestone and recognize the importance of building a new children’s hospital for Alberta.

“Today’s milestone marks progress toward a new stand-alone Stollery Children’s Hospital,” said Martin Long, Minister of Infrastructure. “Alberta’s government is committed to delivering the infrastructure children and families need to receive world-class pediatric care. This new facility will serve our families for generations.”

“Investing in a purpose-built children’s hospital that supports patients, families, and health-care teams is an investment in improving health outcomes for generations to come. A new children’s hospital will provide an enhanced experience, with excellence in care for everyone who walks through our doors,” said Christine Westerlund, Senior Operating Officer at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. “We’re grateful to all who touch children’s health – through care delivery, conducting research, supporting families and philanthropy.”

The future site is located at the University of Alberta’s South Campus, where planning is underway for a new stand-alone Stollery designed around the needs of children, families and the specialized teams who care for them.

The Stollery has become a destination for pediatric care across Alberta, Western Canada and the North, caring for more than 377,947 patient last year. A new Stollery will create an opportunity to reimagine how children’s health care is delivered – bringing together care, research, innovation and family support in a space built just for kids.
