For kids running out of time for a heart transplant, a mechanical heart can take over part of the heart’s function to buy precious time. That’s where Osiris Zelaya, the ventricular assist program co-ordinator at the Stollery, comes in to help families learn to use and care for the equipment that could save their child’s life.

Our historic $40M gift

Our Foundation announced on June 22, 2016 a $40-million gift over 10 years to fund children’s health research through the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute at the University of Alberta. Our historic gift – the largest in the university’s history – will create brighter futures for Stollery kids from Western Canada and beyond, and is made possible thanks to the unwavering generosity of donors like you.

Pint sized hero

At seven years old, Lloydminster’s Dillan Reid has had four major surgeries, 25 minor surgeries, more than 2,000 in-hospital and at-home procedures, and spent 634 days at the Stollery. While Dillan knows the Stollery well and loves his doctors, he’s glad his visits are less frequent now that he’s in the maintenance phase of Hirschsprung’s disease.
