Meet Arlo and Lola
Double trouble – Arlo and Lola are twins with big personalities! They love to read and play together and (luckily) get along very well. Born prematurely at 25 weeks with many health complications, they spent a lot of time at the Stollery Children’s Hospital after being born.
Arlo and Lola both spent six months in the neonatal intensive care unit with Lola undergoing three surgeries and Arlo four before they could go home for the first time.
Since then, Arlo has had a total of 71 surgeries – from multiple airway surgeries to tracheal constructions and with having cerebral palsy, he doesn’t follow a straight line when it comes to medical care. Arlo is on oxygen because of his lung disease and is followed closely by his ear, nose and throat team. Also legally blind, he is followed closely by the ophthalmology team. Lola has had more than 12 surgeries – from strokes to brain bleeds; Lola is also followed closely by multiple teams at the Stollery.
Their family is so grateful to have the Stollery in Edmonton – for them, it’s become a second home, a comforting place to go, not a scary one
