Meet Lochlan

At seven months old, Lochlan started having small head drops and strange eye movements. It was very concerning to his parents, so they brought him into the Stollery to check for seizures.

He was diagnosed with infantile spasms, and the medial team began deeper testing to see what could be causing them. That’s when they discovered his metabolic condition, where protein consumed builds up the ammonia in his body which causes damage to his brain. This rare genetic condition eventually led to emergency brain surgery.

Lochlan now comes to the Stollery every six to eight weeks to monitor metabolic numbers as well as yearly or bi-annual check ins with his many Stollery teams. He also just recently underwent a liver transplant!

Lochlan has been through a lot in his health care journey, but he deals with everything like an absolute champion! His parents are grateful to have the Stollery right here in Edmonton, and for them, it’s like having a second family.

We are beyond thankful for all the Stollery does for our family. The team has helped create a future where Lochlan can continue to amaze us all with his strength and spirit.
