THANKS A MILLION: Spencer Berezowski Memorial Golf Tournament
When a loved one passes away, it’s important to find comfort in the things that brought them joy while they were with us. That’s exactly what Jason Knapton, President of Great Canadian Roofing, Siding and Windows did when his good friend Spencer Berezowski passed away in 2005.
In life, Spencer was a loving husband to his wife Nicole and proud father to his three beautiful children, Kalie, Morgan and Taylor. Spencer loved kids – his kids, his friends’ kids and his many nieces and nephews. He also loved spending time in the great outdoors: camping and playing sports – mostly hockey but also taking in a round of golf from time to time. Unfortunately, a Ski-Doo accident took his life on April 29, 2005, when Spencer was just 31 years old.
Looking for a way to support Spencer’s young family, Jason organized the first annual Spencer Berezowski Memorial Golf Tournament on June 23, 2006, with the goal of starting an education fund for Spencer’s three kids. During the tournament’s first three years, they were able to do just that.
In addition to honouring the memory of his late friend, Jason was also hoping to make a meaningful difference in the community.
In 2009, Jason officially announced the Spencer Berezowski Memorial Golf Tournament would be held in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, celebrating his friend’s memory while also helping sick and injured kids from backyards across Alberta.
Each June, Spencer’s friends and family members join Jason and Great Canadian Roofing, Siding and Windows staff members, clients and supply partners for a day of fun and fundraising at The Quarry golf course in Edmonton.
June 20, 2025, marks 16 years of Stollery support from the Spencer Berezowski Memorial Golf Tournament, and what better way to celebrate this sweet milestone than by announcing that the tournament has raised more than $1 million in support of Stollery kids!
To Jason, the Berezowski family and everyone at Great Canadian Roofing, Siding and Windows, THANKS A MILLION.
