Children's health in Alberta
Through our advocacy work, the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation brings the voices of patients and families, volunteers, donors and other Stollery supporters to our government and health-care partners to prioritize children’s health in Alberta.
Alberta needs a new children’s hospital. You can help.
The Stollery is the only children’s hospital in a major Canadian city that is woven through an adult hospital. It also provides some of the most specialized care in Canada. But the space doesn’t match the talent.

Here's what we're focusing on:
We’re enabling Stollery voices — made up of community advocates and subject matter experts — to provide perspectives on important children’s health issues. The Future Impact Councils of the Stollery (FICS) were formed to address and help answer questions that impact pediatric health care.
In recognition of the distinct needs of Indigenous pediatric patients and their families, the Future Impact Council of the Stollery set out to investigate what investments we could make.
While the technology to deliver various forms of virtual care to Albertans of all ages has existed for decades, many barriers have prevented its widespread adoption. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the requirement to avoid physical contact with others where possible came a push to lift some of those barriers. Since then, the provision of health-care services without having to visit a doctor’s office, clinic or hospital has become ever more common practice.
The Future Impact Council of the Stollery on mental health was born out of recognition of the fast-rising numbers of children and youth with mental health challenges, and the consequent strain the health-care system was experiencing, particularly within the Stollery’s primary catchment area of Edmonton, along with central and northern Alberta.
We invest in pediatric research through our partner, the Women’s and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) at the University of Alberta (U of A). WCHRI, Canada’s only research institute dedicated to women’s, children’s and perinatal health, supports more than 430 researchers across 14 faculties and awards more than 300 grants each year. Occasionally, we receive requests for grants from researchers who are not from U of A, and therefore would not qualify for funding through WCHRI.
