Donor feature: A legacy continued
Charlotte began giving in memory of her husband Frank, but it soon became her own passion. Now a Great Bear Society member, she’s proudly continuing their legacy for Stollery kids.
Charlotte’s connection to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation began not through her own intention, but through the love and legacy of her late husband, Frank. A passionate Stollery supporter since 2006, Frank believed deeply in giving back to the community. Before his passing a few years ago, Frank ensured that his support would endure by leaving an estate gift to the Stollery in his Will, a final gesture of compassion that echoed his lifelong commitment to helping children and families in need.
At first, Charlotte described the Stollery as “Frank’s thing.” But as she stepped into the world he cared so deeply about, something unexpected happened: she began to see the incredible impact their combined generosity was making. What started as a way to honor Frank’s memory quickly transformed into a mission of her own.
Motivated by this new understanding, Charlotte began making monthly donations to the Foundation. Her desire to do more only grew stronger. Now in her late 80s, full of vitality and spirit, Charlotte took another profound step towards leaving her own legacy – including the Stollery in her Will and proudly becoming a member of the Great Bear Society (GBS).
In 2025, Charlotte attended the Foundation’s Ambassador’s Reception where she received her GBS certificate, a moment that deeply touched her. Meeting the Foundation team and sharing in their vision left her feeling seen, valued and more connected than ever. The recognition and genuine conversations with staff reminded her that this wasn’t just about honouring Frank’s legacy anymore, it had become her cause, too.
A dedicated golfer who still hits the course three to four times a week, Charlotte continues to live life with energy and purpose.
What began as an act of remembrance has become a journey of personal passion. Charlotte is writing her own chapter, ensuring that their shared legacy continues to make a difference for Stollery kids and their families.
