Meet Leah
Leah is a resilient and brave girl who loves to dance, paint and play soccer! After being diagnosed with a heart rhythm disorder, Leah relies on ongoing cardiac care from the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
After spending some time in the neonatal intensive care unit as an infant, Leah’s family was no stranger to the support the Stollery can provide.
When she was five years old, Leah was complaining that her heart felt like it was beating out of her chest. Returning to the Stollery, Leah’s family learned that she had supraventricular tachycardia – a heart rhythm disorder.
Through the support of her Stollery team, she learned different maneuvers to help calm her beating heart and help it return to normal speed. Leah’s cardiac team decided that she would benefit from an ablation procedure to help restore her normal heart rhythm.
After spending a day in the cardiac unit recovering from that surgery, she was back home doing all the things she loves.
