Donor feature: From Stollery supporter to Trustee

Jacquie Pylypiuk is a dedicated and passionate supporter of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, dating back to more than a decade ago when she and her family started attending Snowflake Gala as part of the Capital Power team, who are strong supporters of the Stollery.

Not only is Jacquie an annual donor, but she’s also been involved in many volunteer opportunities such as making deliveries through the Breakfast Program, answering phones at Corus Radiothon, visiting stands on Simply Supper’s Lemonade Stand Day, making donor thank you calls and advocating for corporate contributions on behalf of Capital Power (even braving Global News Edmonton’s morning show — twice!). In 2021, she enhanced her commitment by joining the Foundation Board as a Trustee, donating even more of her time and expertise to the Stollery.

But her knowledge of the Stollery goes beyond her contributions to the cause. Before Jacquie and her husband were parents themselves, they had close friends whose child spent nearly a year in the Stollery. Shortly after birth, their friend’s daughter was diagnosed with several significant medical conditions that required advanced medical care. While it was a very trying time for their friends, they were grateful to receive such skilled and holistic care, crediting the team of experts at the Stollery with saving their daughter’s life.

Jacquie’s son and daughter grew up playing competitive sports, so her family spent numerous hours in the Emergency Department for x-rays, stitches and more. Her family considers themselves as fortunate that they didn’t need the Stollery for more serious medical needs, and they are forever appreciative of the exceptional care and compassion provided by the Stollery teams.

Jacquie’s deep appreciation for the Stollery team and the opportunity to give back is what inspired her to support the Hospital.

“The most impactful part of supporting the Stollery is listening to the real-life experiences shared by patients, families and the medical professionals,” she says. “I am in awe of the expertise, innovation and compassion demonstrated by the world-class medical teams and deeply inspired by the resilience of the children they care for.”

“Seeing the direct impact the Stollery has on the children and their families is incredibly rewarding, and I feel very privileged and honored to be able to support the Stollery in various ways.”
